February 2007 Newsletter

February 15th, 2007 · No Comments · Newsletters

Hi Everyone,

The February newsletter has been revised to reflect a change in the wording of the proposed change to the club constitution regarding Big Bass of the Quarter.  The new wording in the revised newsletter would allow a member two weeks beyond the end of a quarter to submit the weight sheet for consideration.  The wording I used in the previous February newsletter would have allowed a member until the end of a quarter to submit the weight sheet.  This new wording provides submission time for members catching a big bass near or on the last day of the quarter.  We’ll be discussing this proposed change at tomorrow’s meeting.

See you all there,
Darryl

Don’t miss the next tournament because you may be in the top ten standings.

February Meeting and Tournament:

Our next club meeting will be Thursday, February 15th, at 7:00 pm. Our February tournament will be on Saturday, February 17, 2007. Ken Haulotte and Carlton Yarbrough have volunteered to bring refreshments to the next meeting.

Annual Dues, Etc.:

If you haven’t paid your annual dues, TABC membership, or for the banquet, you can take care of this at the upcoming meeting. I will have extra membership forms available.

Proposed ACBC Constitution Changes:

President Kirkland proposed several changes to the club constitution at the January meeting. The first proposed change deals with the distribution of money won at a Top 6 or Top 8 tournament. Bylaw V.3 states “If prize money is won, the club will be reimbursed the amount spent for the team (or as much as the prize money will allow).” The proposed change removes this requirement and section V.3 of the bylaws would state “If prize money is won, it will be equally divided by the participating team members with the club also receiving an equal share (i.e. divided 7 ways for top six tournaments or 9 ways for top eight tournaments).

The second proposed change relates to Big Bass of the Quarter. Bylaw III.1 currently requires the weight to be submitted within two weeks of the catch. The proposed change would provide more time for the submission of the weight. The change would be reflected in the club constitution in the following manner: “The weight of the bass, if not caught in an ACBC tournament, must be determined by certified scales or by the ACBC paperweight conversion chart, with a witness other than the fisherman, and submitted to a club officer on a suitable standard form available from the club secretary by the end of two weeks following the end of the quarter in which the bass was caught”. These two proposed constitutional changes will be discussed and voted on at the upcoming meeting.

Fishing Report:

Fayette County Lake is good right now. Dale White and I caught around 30 bass there last Wednesday. Dale out fished me about 2 to 1, with my biggest at 21” and his biggest at 20”. Grass is sparse, but the fish are up fairly shallow in 3 to 5 feet of water because the water temperature is 64 degrees or higher. Bastrop Lake has been producing some good fish and the grass is in great shape for this time of the year. Water temperature has been in the 60’s or higher. Lake Travis has been producing fish from its cold water, but they are generally deep. The FLW pros will be hitting Travis hard this week and the final weigh in will be at the Austin Convention Center at 4:00pm next Sunday afternoon. Make plans to attend. It’s free to the public and there will be lots of giveaways for kids. I will see you at the meeting!
