Hello Everyone,

I’m slowing down only because I’ve been fishing too much. A real problem, huh? The newsletter is attached and I want to remind everyone we have two tournaments this month. Don’t miss the upcoming meeting this Thursday. Please let me know if you have any trouble with the attached file.

February Tournament Overview:

Fishing was tough on Lake Bastrop on a sunny, but very windy tournament day. Only one of sixteen teams managed to catch a limit of 10 fish. Tom Morelock and Mike Wiles tied for big bass of the tournament; both caught a 21” bass. The biggest stringer (15.52 pounds) was caught by Mike Wiles.

Top Ten Standings for 2007:

Mike Wiles- 15.52 pounds Jim Pollard- 11.71 pounds

Tom Clark- 14.52 pounds Stan Evans- 10.44 pounds

Roger Growden- 13.52 pounds Darryl Smith- 9.76 pounds

Chris Tippett- 12.90 pounds Al Lykins- 9.20 pounds

Michael Impsen- 12.20 pounds Art Cruser- 9.20 pounds

Dale White currently has the lead for Big Bass of the Quarter with a 23.5” (7.00 lb.) bass that was caught at Fayette County Lake on February 21, 2007, using a worm in 4 or 5 feet of water.

March Meeting and Tournament:

Our next club meeting will be Thursday, March 15th, at 7:00 pm. Our March tournament will be on Saturday, March 17, 2007. Chris Tippett and Tim Jolly have volunteered to bring refreshments to the next meeting.

Annual Spring Garage Sale:

The annual garage sale is scheduled for April 14, 2007. Please be thinking about what you can contribute to make this garage sale a huge success. All kinds of useable items can be sold by Brian Kitchen, our “super salesman” who always goes the extra mile to make this a huge money maker for the club. Brian will also need some volunteers to help him set up in the morning and put things away at the end of the day. A sign up sheet will be passed around at the upcoming meeting for morning or afternoon shifts.

Travel Tournament:

I know its six months away, but we’re planning for it now. I found out about the availability of rooms at The Anglers Lodge (owned by Carl and Dianne Wengenroth) in Del Rio for October of this year. Rooms were not available for the third weekend in October (our regular tournament weekend) because of another club tournament. Rooms were available for the second weekend in October, the 13th and 14th. I made a tentative reservation for 15 rooms for those dates so the club can determine if this would be a desirable time to go to Lake Amistad for our annual travel tournament.

Fishing Report:

Spring is here and the fishing is improving everywhere as the water temperatures rises. I know lots of fish can be caught at Lake Travis right now and I’m sure that many of the other lakes we fish are getting close to the spawn, just like Lake Travis. Fayette County Lake should still have some spawning activity although much of it has occurred. Still, it’s hard to beat Fayette County in March based upon past years. Bring a fishing report with you to the meeting and get those rods/reels ready to catch some fish this month. Don’t forget, we will be fishing two (2) times this month!

Make Up Tournament-March 31st:

At the upcoming meeting, we will be choosing the lake and picking partners for the January make up tournament that was rescheduled to March 31st. Don’t miss the upcoming meeting because you will miss out on this. Please let me know if you cannot make the meeting and want to fish the make up tournament on March 31st. I will get your name in the drawing as a rigger or non-rigger.

Boat For Sale:

Art Cruser requested this be placed in the newsletter for a close friend, Robert Goodwin. Robert is selling a 1994 Ranger R70 with a 2000 120hp Nisson outboard, Motor Guide 67lb. trolling motor, Hummingbird 3D panorama depth finder on bow and Eagle Optima at console, and a 3 bank onboard batter charger. The boat trailer has new tires and Robert is asking $6200.00. You can contact Art at 258-0496 or Robert Goodwin at 828-4750.

Couples Club Tournament Results:

On March 3, 2007, the ACBC Couples Club conducted their first tournament of the year on Lake Bastrop. Six teams participated in the season opener. As usual, they started the tournament with breakfast at the Texas Grill in Bastrop and finished with a picnic/weigh-in at the lake. It was another tough day on Lake Bastrop. The wind seemed to blow continuously at near hurricane force all day making several areas almost impossible to fish. Fishing ranged from bad to pretty good, generally depending on whether the team decided to battle the wind or stay in protected water. Most fish seemed to come from windy banks. Nita and Jim Pollard won this tournament with 5 fish that weighed 13.77 pounds. They had the biggest fish, a fat 19 incher. The next couples tournament is scheduled for April 14, 2007, at Fayette County Lake.
