April Tournament Overview:
Our April tournament at Decker Lake had 14 teams participating. The wind picked up as the day progressed and that made fishing tough. Only one team caught a limit of 10 fish. Craig Mooney and T.V. Minner took first place with 20.79 pounds. Carlton Yarbrough and Doug Taylor took second place with 17.71 pounds. Jim Pollard and Chris Tippett took third place with 15.65 pounds. The biggest stringer was caught by David McClung (15.33 pounds) and Doug Taylor caught the biggest bass (23”- 6.50 pounds).
Top Ten Standings for 2007:
Tom Clark- 49.61 pounds Al Lykins- 34.75 pounds
Jim Pollard- 48.06 pounds Gib Hoffman- 34.59 pounds
Mike Wiles- 47.51 pounds Chris Tippett- 33.17 pounds
Vince Martin- 45.61 pounds David McClung- 29.83 pounds
Tom Morelock- 39.66 pounds Stan Evans- 29.47 pounds
Doug Taylor is currently leading the pack for Big Bass of the 2nd Quarter with his 23” bass caught during the April tournament.
May Meeting and Tournament:
Our next club meeting will be Thursday, May 17th, at 7:00 pm. Our May tournament will be on Saturday, May 19, 2007. Gary Burnham and Harold Barnett have volunteered to bring refreshments to the next meeting.
Spring Garage Sale:
Once again the garage sale was a big success. At the end of the day, over $800 had been made and Brian Kitchen will increase that figure to some degree by selling certain items on Ebay or Craig’s List. Everyone who contributed items or helped out during the sale should be applauded for being a part of our largest fund raiser of the year. Thank you Brian for having it at your house and ensuring it was successful. You did a fantastic job.
Couples Tournament Results:
On April 14, 2007, the ACBC Couples Club held their second tournament of the year on Fayette County Lake. Four teams participated and it was not an easy tournament. The wind blew like a banshee all day and it was cold. It was impossible to escape the wind and everyone tried to find a relatively protected spot to spend the day. Some fish were caught. The key seemed to be finding the scattered (and scarce) grass that exists at Fayette County Lake. Soft plastics fished ultra slow seemed to work best. Jim and Nita won this one with 5 bass weighing 18.76 pounds. Bob and Peggy Duda came in second place and had big bass with a 23.5 incher. Bob has an unbelievable fish story regarding this big bass. After weigh-in, the couples met for lunch at the Loaves and Fishes Restaurant near the lake .
The Couples Club held their 3rd tournament on May 5th on Decker Lake. Five teams participated and fishing was very slow. The wind became really strong as the morning progressed. Only 15 fish were weighed in for a total weight of 24.88 pounds. Most of the fish were caught in or around grass on soft plastics. The largest fish were two 18 inchers caught by Peggy Duda and Art Cruser. Everyone had a great time and they concluded the tournament with a picnic at the lake. The next tournament of the spring session will be on Lake LBJ on June 2, 2007. The following table reflects the current standings for the ACBC Couples Club:
Team No. Fish Weight Total Weight for Year Current Standings
Patsy and Art 5 8.50 08.50 5
Nita and Jim 5 8.00 40.53 1
Peggy and Bob 5 5.88 18.37 3
Melba and Ken 1 1.31 07.78 6
Suzanna and Ron 1 1.19 09.51 4
Phyllis and Gib 21.66 2
Fishing Report:
During the past two weeks, several members have shared fishing reports with me. Mike Wiles and Dale White had a great trip to Stillhouse Hollow two weeks ago. They caught nearly 40 fish and several things worked well for them that day. Al Lykins and T.V. Minner went to Lake LBJ early Saturday morning and the water was murky and the fishing was slow. They left after a few hours and went to Lake Travis for awhile. They only caught a few dinks during the rest of their morning trip. Decker Lake is not producing like it has in the past. I know it’s late spring and the fishing should be great. Perhaps we should tell the fish! See you all at the meeting next Thursday and bring a fishing report or a friend.
