June Tournament Overview:
Our June tournament at Lake Travis was cancelled at the last minute due to severe weather that would have endangered everyone since the tournament started at 3:00am in the morning. An attempt was made to reschedule the tournament for the following week, but several members could not participate the following weekend, so a decision was made to reschedule this tournament at the July meeting. Please check your schedules so we can reschedule the June tournament before the busy fall schedule. The schedule for this fall is as follows: September tournament on 9/15/2007, TABC Top 8 Tournament at Lake Falcon on 9/29-30/2007, October travel tournament to Lake Amistad on 10/13/2007, November tournament on 11/17/2007 and our December tournament on 12/1/2007. These dates do not include the September, October, and November tournaments that the Couples Club will schedule for this fall.
Top Ten Standings for 2007:
Mike Wiles- 66.59 pounds Stan Evans- 42.17 pounds
Tom Clark- 65.19 pounds Gib Hoffman- 41.54 pounds
Vince Martin- 60.57 pounds John Kirkland- 41.29 pounds
Jim Pollard- 60.39 pounds Chris Tippett- 41.18 pounds
Al Lykins- 44.26 pounds Tom Morelock- 39.66 pounds
John Kirkland caught the biggest bass of the 2nd Quarter while night fishing at Lake Travis on 6/23/2007. His big bass was 25.5” long (9.06 pounds) and was caught at an underwater light in Sandy Creek. (see picture below)
July Meeting and Tournament:
Our next club meeting will be Thursday, July 19th, at 7:00 pm. Our July tournament will be on Saturday, July 21, 2007. Jim Pollard and Tom Morelock have volunteered to bring refreshments to the next meeting.
Show and Tell:
Tom Clark recently returned from a wonderful fishing vacation in Alaska. He has stories to tell and pictures to share with all of us at our next meeting.
Proposed Addition to ACBC Bylaws:
At the last meeting, there was some discussion regarding prefishing during the hours immediately preceding a scheduled club tournament. The club bylaws currently do not prohibit prefishing for any period of time before a scheduled club tournament. Craig Mooney has proposed the following sentence be added to Bylaw IV.7: “No prefishing is allowed during the 8 hours preceding the official starting time of a club tournament.” Bylaw IV.7 is currently one sentence and reads: “Lake selection, starting time of tournament, and the time and place of the weigh-in will be decided at the monthly club meeting.” The intent of this proposed addition to the bylaws is to ensure fair and equitable competition during all club tournaments.
Fishing Report:
“Rain, rain, go away!” How many times have you thought that recently? I haven’t been on the water since June 23rd because of the lake closures. I know Al and T.V. hit Decker on 6/30/07 for 4 hours and caught around 16 fish from 6” to 3 pounds. They were worm fishing primarily on the south end of the lake. T.V. Minner recently fished Lake Buchanan and caught a few small bass. Fishing is tough everywhere due to changing water levels, water clarity, and water temperature. It’s summertime obviously! See you all at the next meeting on Thursday evening.
