Retiree’s Mike Wiles and Darryl Smith fished the Fisher of Men tournament on Lake LBJ last weekend.

This recap was written by Mike Wiles:

We pre-fished LBJ on Friday afternoon and found catching bass very difficult with the cold front coming in even though it was not very cold. We attended the FOM BBQ dinner at the Marble Falls middle school and discovered that there were 85 teams signed up to fish on Saturday. Oh, what are we doing here….
The ladies from the local church made home made deserts to go with the BBQ…. Very good…

On Saturday morning we started as boat number 9, so we got to pick our spot to start fishing…..

However, we starting fishing a shallow cove with spinner baits and flukes and only caught one dink, not a good start.

Next we decided to fish a point next to the shallow cove, we used Al’s approach and started fishing worms in 10′ of water. I caught a 13.5" and fish and Darryl caught a 13.9" fish. Although these fish were not keepers we decided to keep fishing the point. Next we starting catching keeper fish with watermelon red Zoom finesse worms on shaky head jigs and a drop shot rig. Over the next 3 hours we caught a limit of bass and managed to cull one smaller fish all on this one point and all fish were caught on the same watermelon red worm. We tried other baits on the point but only the finesse worms caught any fish. We ended up with 13.81 pounds.

We caught some more fish later at different places and on different worms but we were not able to cull any more fish.

We had a great time….
