Several big events are going to happen this month and next month, so you can check out the details on the next page.

Tournament Overview:

Our August night-time tournament at Lake Travis was great. The full moon, light breeze, and biting fish resulted in thirteen of the twenty-two participants catching a limit of 5 fish. Tom Clark and Carlton Yarbrough took first place with 25.78 pounds. Mike Wiles and Stan Evans took second place with 23.02 pounds and T.V. Minner and Art Cruser took third place with 20.83 pounds. Tom Clark caught the big bass of the tournament, a 22” bass, and he also had the heaviest 5 fish stringer which weighed 15.89 pounds.

September Meeting and Tournament:

Our next meeting will be Thursday, September 18th, at 7:00 pm. Our September tournament will be on Saturday, September 20, 2008. Dale White and Mike Wiles have volunteered to bring refreshments to the next meeting.

Club News:

At the July club meeting, the club tentatively agreed to fish Stillhouse Hollow or Lake Belton during the month of September to aid our Top 8 team during their participation in the TABC Top 8 Tournament on September 27th and 28th. In addition, don’t miss this month’s meeting if you plan to fish during the October travel tournament to Choke Canyon because we will determine partners if you haven’t already found one. There will not be an October meeting on Thursday evening before the October 20th tournament. If you have not made a motel reservation, please do so soon so you don’t have a problem getting a room. The following two businesses have rooms available: Econo Lodge in Three Rivers, phone # (361) 786-3563, or Choke Canyon Lodge, phone # (866) 792-3999 or (361) 786-3999. We are planning a nice rib eye steak dinner at the pavilion of the Choke Canyon Lodge for Friday evening before the tournament. We will plan to eat around 7:00pm.

Fishing Reports:

The days are getting shorter as fall approaches. If you are like me, you wish fall was already here. I’ve been concentrating on fishing Lake Belton and Stillhouse Hollow since the TABC Top 8 Tournament will be held on those two lakes the last weekend in September. Stillhouse Hollow is about 5’ below full and this has exposed the tops of a lot of timber which is normally submerged. Fishing has been somewhat difficult. Fish have generally been caught in deep water on main lake points, drop offs, and timber. Mike Wiles and Jim Pollard managed to catch some fish this past Wednesday, mainly on deep main lake points. Their best five would have weighed over 18 pounds. Lake Belton looks and fishes like Lake Travis, except the only boat docks are at the marinas. I’ve fished two different marinas with some success so they do hold fish. I’m looking forward to this month’s tournament and the prospect of fishing either Lake Belton or Stillhouse Hollow. They both can be challenging since we don’t fish them very often. I look forward to seeing everyone at the upcoming meeting and I know exactly what some of our Top 8 team are hoping for during the upcoming TABC Top 8 Tournament—————
