T. V. Minner is leading the race for Big Bass of the 1st Quarter with a 25.5″ (9.06 pound) bass he caught while fishing with Al Lykins at Fayette County Reservoir on 2/18/10. I’ll bet T.V. will have a great picture to show you at the upcoming meeting. Congratulations T.V.
March Meeting and Tournament:
Our next club meeting will be held on Thursday, March 18th, at 7:00pm. The March tournament will be on Saturday, March 20, 2010. Craig Mooney and Stan Evans have volunteered to bring refreshments to the next club meeting.
Club News:
There will not be a club meeting in April due to the travel tournament which is planned for O.H. Ivie Lake on April 17th. Some members are departing for this tournament on April 15th and others are departing on April 16th so they can do some pre-fishing. Many members are staying at Sportsman’s Inn which is on the east side of the lake. We plan to launch at the Elm Creek Marina which is about a mile from Sportsman’s Inn. There are currently 13 teams participating and it is not too late to make plans to go. Lodging is available fairly close to the lake and the fishing should be great. Two lucky fishermen have caught a Sharelunker from Ivie this year. The winners of a recent tournament weighed in 5 fish that exceeded 28 pounds. This should be a great trip.
The annual Round Rock Amputee Fishing Trip is Saturday, April 24th, at Lake Bastrop. Since there will not be a club meeting in April, we will pass around a sign up sheet at the upcoming club meeting so we can get an idea of the number of riggers/non-riggers who plan to participate in this event. Taking an amputee fishing and sharing a great meal with them and their family is great fun. Frieda Borth works hard to make sure we all have a great time and a great meal. I hope everyone will plan on helping and enjoying the great fishing available at Lake Bastrop.
Fishing Reports:
Our next tournament is on the first day of spring. Fishing reports that I have read recently indicate that fishing is improving as the water temperature rises. Lake Austin has been producing some nice fish by slowly fishing the grass with soft plastics. Less than a month ago, Lake Austin gave up another Sharelunker. Lake Travis has been producing some fish, but most reports indicate they are still in deeper water due to the water temperature. Jim Pollard and his wife, Nita, fished Lake Travis on Thursday, March 11th, and caught 5 fish between 12″ and 14″ in 25 to 35 feet of water under docks using plastics. Bring a fishing report to the upcoming meeting and plan to catch some fish during the upcoming tournament.
