February Tournament:

Our normal February meeting date would have fallen on Valentine’s Day so the members attending the annual banquet decided to not have a meeting.  Fayette County Reservoir was selected for our February tournament and team selection was handled via email.  We are fishing from 7:00am until 3:00pm.  Weigh-in will be at 3:30pm outside the Park Prairie ramp parking lot.

Club News:

At the January meeting, the club voted to fish Lake Amistad during our April travel tournament.  Teams will be drawn at our March club meeting based upon when you would like to depart for Lake Amistad.  Members who want to depart on Thursday, April 18th, will be paired up and members who want to depart on Friday, April 19th, will be paired together.  Riggers who plan to fish this tournament need to make motel reservations at Angler’s Lodge (830-775-1586).

April will be a busy month.  The Amputee Fishing Day on Lake Bastrop is scheduled for April 13, 2013.  Mark your calendars so you will be available to participate in this great event.

Many of you are familiar with C.A.S.T. (Catch a Special Thrill) For Kids.  The annual event is planned for May 4, 2013, at Lake Bastrop and boat captains and first mates (non-riggers) are needed to support this great event designed to take mentally and physically handicapped children fishing.  The Bureau of Reclamation, LCRA, and other sponsors make this event special for every child who participates.  I’ll have a sign-up sheet at the March meeting to circulate.

Fishing Report:

My fishing report will be for Fayette County since I fished there last Saturday.  Catching was good, but not as good as I was hoping for.  I started the day fishing the dam and my first fish came on a black/chartreuse belly crank bait and before I could get the fish in the boat, my partner hooked up with a bass on his Tx. Rigged blue fleck craw plastic.  My partner caught his second bass on a soft plastic before I caught my second bass on my crank bait.  My second fish was 22.5” long measured with mouth closed while laying on the measuring board.  The dam produced some fish for several teams early in the morning.  About mid-morning, I caught several nice fish in the trees of the cove closest to the dam on the east side.  This cove was somewhat protected from the east wind that was steadily blowing.  The bite slowed around noon.  We got off the water at 3:00pm and turned in a weigh-in sheet showing 8 fish totaling 30.88 pounds.  I look forward to seeing everyone next Saturday.
