March Meeting and Tournament:

Our March meeting will be this Thursday, March 14, 2013 at 7:00pm.  Our March tournament will be on Saturday, March 16, 2013.  Don’t miss this meeting because we will also be drawing partners for the April travel tournament to Lake Amistad.

Club News:

At the January meeting, the club voted to fish Lake Amistad during our April travel tournament.  Teams will be drawn at the upcoming club meeting based upon when you would like to depart for Lake Amistad.  Members who want to depart on Thursday, April 18th, will be paired up and members who want to depart on Friday, April 19th, will be paired together.

April will be a busy month.  The Amputee Fishing Day on Lake Bastrop is scheduled for April 13, 2013.  Mark your calendars so you will be available to participate in this great event.  Because we will not have an April club meeting, a sign-up sheet will be passed around at the upcoming meeting so we can estimate the number of boats that will be available from our club.

Many of you are familiar with C.A.S.T. (Catch a Special Thrill) For Kids.  The annual event is planned for May 4, 2013, at Lake Bastrop and boat captains and first mates (non-riggers) are needed to support this great event designed to take mentally and physically handicapped children fishing.  The Bureau of Reclamation, LCRA, and other sponsors make this event special for every child who participates.  I’ll have a sign-up sheet at the March meeting to circulate so I can register every member who plans to participate in this great event.

Fishing Report:

The best fishing reports I have relate to Decker Lake.  Dennis Worley and John Bobo have had several great trips to Decker during the past couple of weeks.  Their latest trip resulted in lots of fish being caught.  John’s best five fish weighed about 17.4# and Dennis has had even better results.  John says the fish have not spawned yet, but I’m sure they will begin to spawn as soon as the water warms up a little more.  I fished Lake LBJ last Saturday and the bite was slow.  The water temperature is between 57 and 59 degrees and the fish have not moved up shallow.  Deeper shorelines and docks produced some fish on watermelon/chartreuse tail soft plastics.  I’m sure fishing will improve when the water warms up a few degrees.
