January 2014 Meeting and Tournament:

Our January meeting will be on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 7:00pm in Room 116 of the Fellowship and Education Building at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3003 Northland Dr., Austin, Texas.  Our first tournament of the year will be on Saturday, January 18, 2014.   Mike Wiles and Gib Hoffman have volunteered to provide refreshments at this month’s meeting.

Club News:

A new year has begun and that means annual dues of $24.00 are due.  Although the club will decide at the upcoming meeting whether we will continue to affiliate with the Texas Assn. of Bass Clubs, the attached membership form will allow you to pay your $20.00 membership to TABC.

The annual awards banquet is scheduled for January 25, 2014, at Twin Oaks Ranch, 100 Marks Overlook, Buda, Tx. 78610.  Go to the Twin Oaks Ranch website for directions/  Our guest speaker will be from TPWD and there will also be a guest musician playing/singing as we gather for the evening activities.  More details will be provided at the upcoming meeting.  If you can’t make the club meeting next Thursday evening and want to attend the awards banquet, please let Mitch Shelton know so there will be enough food prepared for everyone attending.

An important item was overlooked at the December meeting.  There was no secret ballot to identify the member most deserving of the Johnny Mayes Sportsmanship Award.  Be prepared to cast your ballot for the member who exemplifies good sportsmanship on and off the water.  Although very few current members knew Johnny Mayes, we all recognize good sportsmanship when we experience it.

Fishing Report:

I hope all of you appreciate winter weather in Texas when compared to the winter weather in other parts of the United States.  How blessed we are to be able to fish from a boat in January.  I know Lake Bastrop has been producing some fish for members who visited her warmer water recently.  I’ll be fishing on Lake LBJ the weekend before our club meeting so I will report on my success or lack thereof at the upcoming meeting.  I’ll look forward to seeing you at the January meeting next Thursday.
