February 2015 Meeting and Tournament:

Our February club meeting will be on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 7:00pm at Pok-e-Jo’s Smokehouse, 2121 Parmer Lane, Austin, Tx.  Our February tournament will be on Saturday, February 21st.  Come early to the meeting and enjoy some great BBQ.

Club News:

Ron Torrey, Region VII Director for TABC, will be our guest speaker at this month’s meeting.  Don’t miss this opportunity to exchange information with a representative of TABC.  I have attached a file that Mike Wiles provided that contains some information that you may want to review before the meeting.

Don’t forget that April is the month of our travel tournament this year and we will be discussing at the upcoming meeting where we would like to fish this year.  If you have any suggestions, please come prepared to share information regarding lake level, lake access, and availability of lodging for our April travel tournament.

The first Retiree Club tournament on Decker Lake was fun.  Six teams caught 34 fish and two of them were 8 pounders.  Art Cruser and Gary Burnham won the tournament with 7 fish weighing 23.59 pounds.  Mike Wiles had the biggest stringer of 5 fish weighing 19.64 pounds.  Mike and Harold Barnett both caught an 8.0 pound bass.

The club needs a place to meet in May because Pok-e-Jo’s is already reserved that month.  If you have a suggestion, we need to pick a location for our May meeting.

Fishing Report:

Spring is near and the water temperature will be rising soon.  It was around 55 degrees at Decker Lake last Friday, February 13th.  The only fishing reports I have relate to Lake LBJ and involve night time fishing.  Gary Burnham and I went on Saturday, February 7th, and Gary Burnham and Steve Martinez went on Tuesday, February 10th, and some big bass were biting at some of the underwater lights.  I caught two 23” bass during the Saturday evening trip and Gary and Steve both caught a 23” fish during their Tuesday evening trip.  Bring your fishing report to the upcoming club meeting and get ready to catch a big bass during our next tournament.  See you Thursday evening.
