March 2019 Meeting and Tournament:

Our March meeting will be on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at 7:00pm at Pok-e-Jo’s Smokehouse on Parmer Lane. Our March tournament will be on Saturday, March 16, 2019. Come early to enjoy the fellowship and some great BBQ.

Club News:

We will draw partners this month for the May travel tournament to Choke Canyon Reservoir. If you cannot attend the meeting this month and plan to fish the travel tournament, please let me know whether you want to leave on Thursday or Friday and whether you plan to be a rigger or non-rigger. This will help ensure everyone is paired up this month.

Don’t forget that April 27th, 2019, is the Amputee fishing event at Lake Bastrop. We need riggers and non-riggers to participate in this event to ensure all the amputees have a great time. We fish until noon and share a great lunch together that is provided by the families of the amputees. A sign-up sheet will be passed around at the upcoming meeting so we can begin to make plans for this event.

C.A.S.T. for Kids is planned for May 4th and riggers and non-riggers can go online to register as a boat captain or co-captain. The website is www.castforkids.org. Click on the tab for “Find an Event”. When you find the Lake Bastrop event, click on “Register as a Boat Captain”. Non-riggers should register as a co-captain. I encourage all of you to participate in a very organized and enjoyable event that benefits some very special kids.

Art Cruser decided to give the certificate for a guided fishing trip with Mike Hastings back to the club because he couldn’t go with his grandson before this summer. There will be another raffle at the upcoming meeting and the money will go to Bob and Sherry Smith so they can provide lunch for the school kids they are teaching in Kenya.

Couples Club:

The first Couples Club event of the year was held on Lake Bastrop and 7 couples participated on a cold day. Gene and Tammy Franz won the tournament with 5 fish that weighed 14.32 pounds. Dan and Diane Wessman were the very close second place team with 5 fish weighing 14.27 pounds. Tammy Franz and Katy Duda tied for big bass with a 19.5” bass that weighed 4.06 pounds. The Couples Club will have their next tournament on April 6th, 2019.

Fishing Reports:

March should be a great month for fishing although the weather is seems to change every week. The Retiree Club fished Decker Lake last Thursday. The water temperature was between 51 degrees and 54 degrees.  Fish were caught shallow along the reed lines. They were caught in about 10 feet of water on a Carolina rig and on the dam using a crankbait or soft plastic. There were 9 teams and one person on each team caught a limit of fish. Plan to share your fishing reports with everyone at the upcoming meeting. I will see you at the meeting next Thursday evening.
